Apartment 12

Residential interior

A collection still growing.
A home built to hold it.

Gallery wall of found objects and textiles: an antique clock, painted plates, an embroidered panel, arranged above a small dining table

The client's collection is extensive and still growing: paintings, textiles, ceramics, objects gathered over years and unlikely to stop arriving. The brief was a home that could hold all of it without disappearing under it, and without turning cold to compensate. Minimalism would have been the easy answer. Instead, the home needed enough character of its own to become part of the collection without competing with it.

Hallway view toward a built-in wardrobe, two framed prints hung symmetrically, paper lantern pendant
Afternoon light crossing a hallway wall in bars, framed prints receding toward the far end

Light and dark wood were allowed to sit side by side rather than matched, paired with soft textures and quiet colour so nothing competes with what's on the walls. Coordinated, not uniform: the difference is what keeps a layered home from reading as cluttered.

Vintage writing desk with a cane chair, framed print above, beside a velvet sofa in rust
Doorway framing a dining table beyond, a textile panel and mounted tools on the wall in the foreground
Round dining table under a paper lantern, late sun casting foliage shadow across the wood
