OpticTendril
Responsive installation

Optic Tendril began as a question: what happens when a space responds to the people inside it rather than simply containing them? Fibre-optic filaments rigged with motion sensors, driven by an Arduino board. Deliberately, no instructions for use.

At rest, the tendrils hung limp. That stillness was the first move: curiosity drew people toward something they didn’t yet understand. Close enough, and it answered: fibres twitching, light shifting with proximity, angle, speed of approach.
It usually took a moment to realise they were causing it.

The pause before the play began was the emotional
centre of the piece: realisation, then wonder.

Once one person engaged, others followed.
It moved through the room like a current.

Developed with a small team. Concept, spatial design, sensor programming, rigging, installation: the full arc from idea to live system.
